Skip the crowded mansions and head here for the actual history of Samuel Morse. The Italianate villa interiors are surprisingly intact, but the real play is the five miles of hiking trails behind the house. They offer some of the best unobstructed views of the Hudson River you will find in Poughkeepsie. Plan for two hours, pack comfy shoes for the dirt paths, and definitely dodge the afternoon sun on the open lawn.
