Drive the 4WD track into the center of a massive comet crash site from 140 million years ago. You will see towering jagged rock walls that formed during the impact, not through erosion. Spend an hour hiking the ridge for the best scale of the crater floor. Respect the Arrernte sacred sites by staying on marked paths. Visit at sunrise for the red glow on the sandstone, but skip the mid-day heat entirely.
