The tour of Maratea begins from the highest point of the town: Mount San Biagio. Here you can admire the majestic Statue of Christ the Redeemer, a symbol of the city and of the Basilicata region.

The second largest statue of its kind in the world after the one in Rio de Janeiro, it stands 21 meters tall with an arm span of 19 meters and a face measuring 3 meters. It is made of reinforced concrete covered with white cement and Carrara marble, created by the artist Bruno Innocenti in 1965, dominating the landscape with spectacular views over the sea and mountains.

After admiring the statue, the visit continues to the nearby Basilica of St. Biagio, dedicated to the town’s patron saint; inside, you can admire its most important work, a fresco depicting the Madonna and Child.

The tour then continues through the medieval village of Maratea, among ancient houses with arches, narrow alleys, and charming streets that open onto small squares with local stone, creating an evocative atmosphere
