Don't bother visiting if you aren't a die-hard fan. The plaque gallery is the actual main event; ignore the redundant equipment displays and focus on the history of the Negro Leagues wing instead. It takes about three hours to get through everything properly. Go on a weekday morning to dodge the chaotic summer tour bus crowds. If you need a break, the local bars on Main Street serve better food than any museum cafe.
