Walk a mile out onto the salt flats to actually see the hexagon textures instead of just staring from the parking lot. You need at least an hour to truly appreciate the desolate vibe. Arrive by 7am during summer or you will absolutely melt. The self-guided audio tour is decent for the drive, but skip the pricy private hikes; you can explore the basin perfectly fine on your own. Drink way more water than you think.
