Skip the ropeway if you want a decent leg workout; the steep hike up hits different and clears out the crowds. You get a genuine, original 1600s wooden keep rather than some concrete reproduction. The view of the Seto Inland Sea from the top deck is worth the climb. Expect to spend two hours tops. Grab a mikan soft serve at the base station on your way back down to cool off.
