Skip the crowded cities for the Puszta. You come here for the massive flat horizon, the traditional Nine-Hole Bridge, and the grey cattle roaming the plains. Rent a bike or hire a local guide to find the wild Przewalski’s horses; walking solo gets you nowhere fast. Visit in spring to see the crane migration or avoid the summer heat entirely. It is just empty space and weirdly hypnotic, so bring snacks and patience.
