Skip the main visitor center and head straight for the northern ramparts. You get total solitude and the best view of the river valley here, especially during golden hour. It takes about an hour to wander the ruins, which are mostly overgrown stone foundations now. Wear decent sneakers, as the terrain is uneven and slippery after rain. Don’t pay for the guided tour; just grab a map at the entrance and explore on your own.
