Vanderbilt Museum

Vanderbilt Museum: Mansions, Taxidermy & Ocean View Grounds

Skip the main mansion tour if you aren't into 1920s interior design, but absolutely wander the Marine Museum. The collection of thousands of odd taxidermied sea creatures is delightfully weird and arguably the best part. Budget three hours here. Grab a coffee at the snack bar and walk the grounds overlooking the Northport Bay—the coastal view beats the gilded furniture every time. Parking is free, so just drive up and explore the estate.
