Skip the crowded Meredith docks and head straight for Ellacoya State Park if you actually want a patch of sand. The lake is huge, so rent a boat from a smaller marina to find quiet coves for cliff jumping. Sunset at Paugus Bay hits differently, but pack bug spray or the black flies will eat you alive. Spend at least one full day on the water, or you're just staring at a puddle from land.
