Climb the precarious wooden ladders into the Alcove House for the best views in the park. It is a workout, so bring water and sturdy shoes. Skip the main loop if you hate crowds; the Falls Trail offers a much quieter hike to a decent waterfall. You need at least three hours to actually explore the canyon floor. Check the shuttle schedule online before driving out from Los Alamos or you will waste your morning.
