Hike the 2.5-mile trail to the vintage stone house where the Pacific Crest Trail crosses. It is a weirdly lush break from the Coachella Valley heat with actual running water and massive cottonwood trees. Expect zero cell service, so download your maps before the dirt road entrance. Sunset is the move for the best lighting against the canyon walls, but skip the midday sun. Two hours is plenty of time for a solid loop.
