Don't bother with the overpriced private tours; the standard Grand Rooms tour gets you into the main halls and that famous Neptune Pool just fine. Spend two hours max touring the opulent suites, but skip the film if you want more time outside. The zebra herds wandering near the hillside entrance are the real highlight. Combine this with the Big Sur PCH driving tour if you want a full day of scenery. Wear comfortable sneakers for the walk.
