Hop on a boat from Punta del Este harbor for a forty-minute ride to meet the massive sea lion colony. You cannot actually step onto the island, but the boat gets close enough to see thousands of seals sunbathing and swimming. Skip the pricey private charters and take the standard ferry instead. Bring a jacket because the wind is brutal. It takes about two hours total. Look for the massive lighthouse—it is one of the world's tallest.
