Pismo Butterfly Grove: Spotting Thousands in Eucs at Sunrise

3.6 (25)

Show up between November and February or you are just looking at empty trees. When the weather hits, thousands of monarchs cling to these eucalyptus branches like orange leaves. It takes 30 minutes max to walk the loop, so don't plan a whole day around it. Bring binoculars since they hang high up. Skip the midday heat; they only open their wings when it warms up. It’s weird, wild, and basically a giant bug sanctuary.
