These trees are absurdly massive; photos don't translate the scale until you're standing at the base of General Sherman. Skip the crowded midday parking circus and show up at dawn to actually hear yourself think. If you want a deep dive without the logistics, the Private Snowshoe Adventure is worth the splurge in winter. Give it at least four hours to hike the Congress Trail. Wear sturdy boots and bring layers, even in July.
