After Seville fell under Christian rule, the decision was made to create a Cathedral in the place of the mosque that would show off seville’s prosperous wealth. Legend has it that the original design committee wanted the outside world to think they were “mad” for attempting this daunting project.
Built in 1507 the Cathedral remains the largest Gothic style Cathedral in the world! Today the famous Giralda bell tower, which lower portion remains from the original 1198 mosque, rises powerfully about the city skyline.
