Skip the main entrance crowd and head straight for the upper trails. You get the best view of Temuco from the summit, especially when the haze clears in the late afternoon. Spend two hours trekking the paths through the native Chilean forest. The small museum near the base is skippable, but the wood-fired empanadas nearby hit different after the climb. Wear decent sneakers; the steep path gets slippery if it rained the night before.
