Scoring tickets is a bloodbath—book exactly one month out at 10am JST or you're out. Once inside Mitaka's whimsical maze, head straight to the Saturn Theater for a short film you can't see anywhere else. Skip the overcrowded gift shop until the very end. The life-sized Robot Soldier on the roof is the only spot for photos since indoor filming is banned. Spend three hours soaking in the sketches and hand-cranked animation displays.
