Don’t bother with the cables unless you secured a permit and have serious arm strength. This hike is a brutal 14-mile grind that wrecks your knees. If you aren't doing the full ascent, the view from Glacier Point hits just as hard without the dehydration. Skip the group tours if you hike at a decent clip. Bring three liters of water and start at 4am to avoid the midday mountain heat. It is exhausting, not peaceful.
