Atlixco is basically a massive garden at the foot of an active volcano. Skip the resort crowds and walk the Zócalo for sorbet before climbing the Cerro de San Miguel for the best view of Popocatépetl. It is close enough to the city that you can hit the Puebla Cathedral in the morning and be back for dinner in the mountains. Go for the year-round spring weather, stay for the street food.
