Visit during Carnival for the full-throttle parade, but if you're here off-season, just walk the track for free and hit the Samba Museum. Most city tours drop you here for a quick photo op by the concrete arches; don't spend more than 30 minutes unless there’s a rehearsal. Skip the expensive seats in Sector 9 if you want to dance with the locals—Sector 11 has the best drum section views. Wear sunscreen, there is zero shade.
