Skip the cramped Goreme crowds and head here instead. This abandoned troglodyte valley lets you climb through ancient cave dwellings and churches without a velvet rope in sight. Spend at least two hours wandering the three interconnected valleys to really see the scale of the rock-cut architecture. Bring sturdy shoes for the steep climbs. The Red Tour combo is convenient, but just hire a local taxi or rent a car to explore the ruins at your own pace.
